Long Live Minecraft

Some unfortunate news I have to report today. I discovered that the Bukkit project has been more or less discontinued as a result of a recent DMCA notice filed against them. As a result, all Bukkit downloads have been removed and are no longer available for download, and most Bukkit staff have formally resigned. Similarly, the Spigot project received a similar notice, and has also removed all downloads; however, the Spigot team has released a program which can update Spigot through binary patching, allowing the project to continue updating within legal boundaries. As a result of these recent developments, the future of Livecraft and the 1.8 update are in question. The server will continue to be online, but many difficulties, such as the lack of future updates may be encountered.

I would like to give a personal thank you to all of the talented people who have contributed to both Bukkit and Spigot, and I have appreciated being able to have used Bukkit and Spigot for the past four years. The software was useful to hundreds of thousands, and it will be missed. I do hope that the legal issues can be resolved, but for now, the futures of both Bukkit and Spigot are unknown.

Regarding my minecraft-init and mc*NIX projects, I will update them shortly to allow binary patching of Spigot and remove downloads to both the Bukkit and Spigot projects, considering it is no longer possible to download them directly.

Jonathan Alfonso (alfonsojon)

Time Warner Network Problems

Hi, I would like to update you all on some recent network problems with Time Warner Cable that have been affecting Livecraft directly for the past few days. Around 24 hours ago, Time Warner Cable experienced a nationwide service outage which affected Livecraft by causing a large amount of lag and times where the server was not accessible at all. It seems the issue has been dealt with upstream; however, I feel that the quality of the connection has degraded. This may result in the server being slower to respond or occasionally disconnecting players. I would like to announce that this is unfortunately out of my control, and I will be looking to other internet service providers as I feel that Time Warner Cable is not adequate. I appreciate your cooperation as I attempt to work around this issue.

On a personal note, I suggest not getting Time Warner internet. Get Charter or Comcast, you will be a much happier customer.

Cube World!

Hey guys, I’m rather excited to bring some news to you who may or may not be aware of a game called Cube World. It is a fantastic game that is currently in alpha, but is a very feature-filled and stable role-playing game. Due to my recent interest in this game, I’ve decided that I will hopefully be hosting a Cube World Livecraft server. No worries, however; I will never replace the Minecraft side of things, so no need to worry about the two servers conflicting. For those interested, this game is experimental and currently in alpha, so the future of this server will not be concrete.

Note: The server is not online 24/7 and will only be online when it is ready (when I get an init.d script working).

I will bring it back online as soon as possible. Furthermore, Prism will need to be fixed once I have relocated, as it is currently broken. I apologize for any inconvenience.

UUID Plugin Checklist

Livecraft is currently operating using Minecraft 1.7.5 server software that has been modified to support Minecraft versions 1.7.2 to 1.7.9. Although it works well, this is far from optimal as the new Minecraft versions (1.7.9 and 1.7.10) support name changing. Most plugins must be updated, meaning it is a very large update on the server side of things, resulting in many things that can prevent the update. A checklist will be provided here for what is currently working under 1.7.10 and what still needs to be updated.

At the current moment, name changing is NOT SUPPORTED. You WILL lose player data if you change your username, and the server WILL TREAT YOU AS A NEW PLAYER. In the event Mojang allows name changing in the near future, you accept this risk and the potential loss of data that goes along with it.
